I have a seemingly small tip that will keep your house/yard tidier as you plant and replant your houseplants. It is how to plant houseplants to avoid dirt spilling out the drainage hole at the bottom. When planting houseplants, before you place dirt or your plants in your pot, cut out cardboard to fit the bottom of the container (I like to use several pieces) so that soil does not leak out the bottom making a mess. Eventually, the cardboard will decompose, but by that time, the plant’s root system will develop enough to hold most of the soil in place. Of course, if your pot does not have a drainage hole, then this is unnecessary, but when you are planning on planting houseplants you really should be using pots with drainage to prevent you from accidentally drowning your plants when you water them.
