Houseplants are all the rage right now. This is for good reason, they can help clean the air inside and help bring a sense of calm and of nature indoors.

While I love gardening and plants, anything that is too fussy or time intensive will eventually meet its demise. My life does not have a place for difficult plants! Any plant that manages to live past a few years is a winner in my book.

Case in point is the Dragon Tree or Dracaena. I have had this spiky, interesting looking plant for two years and in that time it has grown and flourished with very little attention from me. And as a bonus, the Dragon Tree plant is a fantastic air purifier. In fact, it is on NASA’s list of the best air purifying house plants.

You can identify the Dragon Tree plant by its long, spiky leaves. It also has a rather unique stem. The texture of which resembles bamboo and often branches out like a little tree.

Light Requirements: I have read I have read that this is considered a light loving houseplant, but I have always kept it in a darker corner of my home where it gets indirect light. I think that a dark room like might not suit it, otherwise, I would try out your spot and see how it does.

Water: I water every other week(ish) and then let it dry out between watering. When I go out of town, I never ask anyone to water it for me.

Animals: Please know that this plant is toxic to dogs and cats. I have a dog and he has never eaten it or gotten sick, but know that if your animal eats your houseplants, you should stay away from this one.

TLDR: The Dragon Tree houseplant is an attractive and easy plant to grow indoors. Water every other week and keep your kids and pets away from eating it.
